Designing Your Home
Interior Design is extremely important in today’s homebuilding market. Functionality is key! Traffic patterns, colors and styles should flow well from room to room. Most importantly your home should be an expression of your unique personality and lifestyle.
Building your new home can be a challenge without a good selection process. Here are a few questions to consider before making selections for the interior of your home. What existing furniture, if any, will be used in the new home? Are there any treasured paintings or accessories that will be incorporated? What styles or "look" are you trying to achieve? Are there colors you like or dislike? What is the feeling your home should portray? If a painting is your inspiration piece, how will it best be displayed?.
The following is a general order for making the color and style selections that will go into your home:
1. After choosing the outside of your home, it is easiest to start with the flooring, and move upward. The choice of ceramic tile or wood flooring is a good place to begin.
2. The next step would be carpeting, laminates and vinyl flooring. As you lay the flooring selections together, there should be a definite feeling that they flow or belong together. This is also a good time to choose your paint colors.
3. The third step should be your cabinet maker. Be sure to bring your flooring samples and all other samples with you to each store. At the cabinet maker, choices are made as to wood species, stain color, style, configuration, counter tops, hardware, etc.
4. From there, stop at the plumbing showroom. Choose your bathroom fixtures based on your flooring, cabinetry and color scheme.
5. The last stop is generally the lighting store. It is to your advantage to have all of the other components already selected. Due to the large variety of lighting fixture colors and styles to choose from, there are many things to consider while making your selections. Hiring an interior designer can relieve much of the stress involved, eliminate costly mistakes and most importantly insure the desired outcome.
